FAQ

What is improv comedy?
Improv is different from standup comedy. In a Stone Soup show, we perform a series of skits or “games” with a group of improvisers. Everything is made up on the spot with suggestions from the audience. You may be familiar with improv through the TV show Whose line is it Anyway?

Are Stone Soup shows OK for kids?
We try to keep our shows PG-13 or thereabouts, but with improv, anything can happen. We often have 10+ year-old audience members who seem to enjoy the show (or are just very diplomatic).

I want to learn! Does Stone Soup offer classes?
We do not currently conduct classes. There are a variety of option for improv classes in the East Bay, though, so fear not! Our improvisers have attended classes at Berkeley Rep. Classes are also available through Berkeley Improv, Magic Jester Theater, and Pan Theater.

Does Stone Soup do private shows or corporate events?
Yes! We can arrange shows and/or workshop events for 10-150 people. Contact us with details of what event you’re interested in and we’ll work with you to make sure we understand your needs.

Do you serve food or drinks?
There is a limited selection of snacks and coffee available for purchase at our shows.

How long does a show last?
Our shows typically run somewhere between 1.5 to 2 hours, with a 10 minute intermission.

I want to be a part of Stone Soup! Are there auditions?
Stone Soup periodically conducts auditions for improvisers with performance experience. If you are interested, contact us and we’ll let you know the next time we’re auditioning!

If you just want to help out (and see the show for free), Stone Soup is always on the lookout for volunteers to help us at each show.
